Holistic Therapy

I am a lifetime learner and admirer of Peter Levine, Ph.D., Bessel van der Kolk, MD, and Ron Siegel. These men, along with approaches like Emotional Freedom Technique, have been researching and articulating the physiological implications of trauma for many years. The body has its narrative, whether the subject matter is trauma, stress, anxiety, or depression. So much of traditional talk therapy discounts the story/storage that is held in the body. This is why someone can spend countless years in therapy and have little to no real progress.  It can be incredibly healing to tell the story that was swept under the rug, kept “secret,” or the “shame of the family.” The verbalization has its place but is always in connection with the body’s narrative.

The body’s story tells us the effects the past has on the present as it relates to our nervous system and automatic physiological responses to the here and now. Our brain, body, and spirit are interwoven; the experience/s that is stuck in mind is also held in the body. Until these pieces integrate, we are often stuck in the past, stuck in worrying about the future and missing the present.

Emotional Freedom Technique

One of our commonly used somatic-based interventions is the Emotional Freedom Technique, similar to acupuncture. EFT involves gently tapping on specific meridian points on the body to release blocked energy and restore balance to your emotional and physical well-being. While the concept of energy work may seem unfamiliar, it aligns with the principles of acupuncture, a practice widely accepted in Western medicine.

EFT can be a valuable tool for addressing a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Emotional distress: anxiety, stress, fear, anger, sadness, and grief.
  • Trauma: PTSD, unresolved childhood experiences, and emotional overwhelm.
  • Limiting beliefs: negative thought patterns that hold you back from achieving your goals.
  • Physical ailments: chronic pain, headaches, and other physical symptoms that may be related to emotional stress.
  • Addictions: Support in overcoming unhealthy habits and cravings.

With EFT, many people experience rapid and significant shifts, allowing them to break free from old patterns, release limiting beliefs, and create a life of greater peace and fulfillment.

My Journey with Emotional Freedom Technique

I’ll admit, I was initially skeptical about EFT. Watching videos of people tapping on their foreheads seemed a bit strange! But after hearing a fellow therapist rave about its transformative effects, I decided to give it a try. Within a single session, I knew I had discovered something truly remarkable. EFT has profoundly impacted my own life and has become an integral part of my practice.

If you’re curious about EFT and how it might benefit you, I invite you to schedule a free consultation. It’s an opportunity to experience tapping firsthand and explore its potential to unlock your healing journey.
